My Dear Maggie,
I was indeed glad to get your letter some time ago and to know you and you family are well and doing well. It is such a comfort to Mr. Nicholson and you to have such a good health. I suppose before this time the girls will both be at home from their schools. How lovely I do wish I had a daughter coming home to spend the summer with me. It is certainly very hard for your brother to be as he is but I understand he has a very fine wife which must be a great comfort to you that he has one that takes such good care of him. Your mother too seems to hold her own. She must be well along in years now. Your cousin Miss Boynton moved last fall into a near house. Very pleasant location. A nice of Mr. Nicholson's I think was with her when I called. I don't know if she is still in South.Fork or not. I meet Mrs. Booth on the street sometimes. She looks well and likes here much better. I do hope you or the girls or the whole of you might come down this summer. I think among us you could have an enjoyable time. We would try to do our part and we would love to have you come. I believe Eddie Brown is to be married this month to Miss Sennolt. My eldest brother I had not seen for 22 years has paid us a visit. He is now in Montreal. He came East to be present at his son's graduation from Columbia University. He got through with honors. Is a fine boy. Carl. You may have heard sister Nellie speak of hi. His is at Dreamland Park Coney Island for the summer, later he enters the New York hospital as Intern. With a change for surgical practice. He was up here for a few days when his father was here. Wm returns by way of Berkley California to visit Bessie, his daughter. My youngest brother James was East this spring on business was absent from home 9 weeks - was up here from New York for a few days and was in good spirits looking forward his home going and telling us so much of his dear children - on his way home (after he left Chicago, he had telegrams telling of the serious illness of the two youngest with Scarlet Fever and before he reached home his precious little girlie died. Millicent, aged a little over 8 years. You must have heard of her. She was a darling we all learned to love her so much four years ago when they were on. Little Ladner about 7 is still critically ill. They have lanced his glands and his arm and side, the puss came by the cupfuls. I really have very little hopes of his recovery. It is a dreadful affliction. The fever was prevalent there and must have been very malignant. They are still under quarantine and Millicent died May 13th. Such lovely children and so well looked after. My brother being away made it doubly hard. He lost a little boy years ago when he was East.
We too have had our troubles but thank God not a circumstance to theirs. Nathan is poorly, has a return of asthma and bronchitis. Still has the latter. He laid off work for 4 weeks and we try our best not to have him work now. He said this AM he did not fell any strength and thought he would have to give up. Chester told him not to work one day longer but he will work if he is able at all. We want him to go to Maine or New Hampshire or to North West of somewhere for a change. I wish he would go. We have had so much rainy weather this spring. This last week has been hot. We are looking for Ross down about middle of July will be so glad to see him. Thank you so much for you kind invitation and I may go up that way towards fall, it all depends on how Nathan is. Mr. Leavitt died in February and Mrs. L is very lonely, wants me to go up and visit her. Chester is well, working hard. I tell him it's time he was getting married. He says I want to get rid of him!! I don't want him to be an old BACH. I so want him to marry some nice girl, but he doesn't seem to be as interested as I am.
Has Herbert a girl, I think he would be one who would be quite a ladies man. I hear that Gordon Brown has a son. Frederick Thorburn. Helen Redi McCallum is expected again in July (say nothing please!) it is to be a boy!! She is well and very happy seems to enjoy life and little Jean is very well and rosy cute.
I have to can some pineapples so much stop to go to work a while. It is still cool. Tell the girls they better come down to visit us and later on you come. Hope Mr. Nicholson keeps well, Goodbye, Much love Marion.(Coy) PS Write soon and tell me your plans for the summer. I have not made any. I have been so upset this spring I don't know where I am at. Never was behind hand as this summer. Nate being ill, I can't seem to work as I wanted too, with him at home. I supposed you have everything in good order and your sewing all done up! Am wondering if Eddie and his bride are coming this way. He wrote me last summer that he might make us a call this spring or summer sometime.
