Dear Sir,
I am writing you on a matter that concerns me very much and would kindly ask you to look into the matter. I was transferred to Mr. Black division first of February and about the 13 of May I asked him permission to come home for a few days. His answer to me was he would see. Mr. Adair who is in charge of Residency 37 where I was staying. On the following day Mr. Adair called me to his office and said Mr. Black wanted me o keep time and measure boulders until they would get a man to do this work. I then told Mr. Adair that I had asked Mr. Black for permission to go home. He then said they had written for a man to take charge of his work and it would only be for a few days. I done this work for two weeks. On Thursday May the 26th I came home from work and found a party that had been up to Residency 39 with a m an that was sent there to work and found I could get down with them in their canoe to the end of Steel. I then made enquiry for Mr. Adam to see him before leaving and found that he had been called to Residency 34 that afternoon but would be back Saturday. And as a man was expected every day for this work, I was getting down with these parties I thought it would be all right to go if not I would have to walk 43 miles which you can readily see is not an easy tack and as I was losing my time while away, I thought they would be more considerate. I have always done my work they asked me to do. Since I have been in the employ of the NTR. On the 20 of July I was notified that my services was not any more required and that another man was taking my place. I feel that I have not been treated fairly in this matter and might say that it's the first time in my life that I have been dismissed form any position entrusted to me, and would say I always asked permission to come home since I have been in the employ of the NTR which was never before refused. Yours Respectfully,
N. Nicholson
PS I might mention that I went to Quebec the day after coming home and saw Mr. Doucet and explained the matter to him and delayed writing you thinking they might reconsider the matter.
