Alice Dresser to Flora
(Alice founded the Richmond Historical Society) MacDonald College Sept 8, 1910
Dear Girls,
I'll address this to you, Paul, but it's for Flora too, for goodness only knows when I'll get around to write to her. Well, I'm here and pretty well settled. It's just fine. Today the domestic science students are coming, ninety of them, and I'm just wishing I could see your refreshing physiognomy among them. Pauline, Rachel Reed, Trenholme's sister is here. And Trenholme expects to come for agriculture at the end of the month. Won't that be fine for her? She's very nice. I've go the worst cold. It's just awful. So, if Marion tells you Flora, how she came down to our room last night and found us writing letters home, and weeping a little bit, you may know it was partly the fault of the cold. I don't know what made us feel so blue, but it was a horrid day and I said something in my letter about the kittens and I got to thinking about the darlings and it all combined to make me homesick. Marion came in and saw it all at a glance and grabbed away our letters and took us down to her room for a visit and I've felt fine ever since. I don't find the work very hard, so far, although Miss Robins, who teachers us mathematics, is rotten hard. I must tell you a joke about her class. Yesterday she taught I model, long division, with all of us watching her. She put some rows of dots on the board and asked the youngsters where they ever seen anything that looked like that. The youngster said, "Please, on a plaster that you put on your back." We just roared and the only two boys in the teachers courses were there too. May Davis is sick now. She had the doctor today but is feeling better tonight. Grace Pye is here, but I don't see very much of her as she is not in our division. You see, all the models who have ever been here before or been at RHC are A division. The other models are B. The elementaries to M are C and the rest are D. Will you girls please send me the rank of the college, when you know it. Carrie had a letter from Marion K tonight. And she said there were five boys in III Academy. Is Donald Stewart there? I heard that he had gone to Colorado and would probably stay out there for a while. If he's not there, who is the fifth boy? I got a card from Amy today, but of course she hardly got into the work yet. How does Frank like teaching, Pauline? Girls, there's a girl here who makes me think ever so much of Lilybell. Her name is Isabel Quinn, but everyone calls her Queen Isabelle. She has taken a great fancy to Marion and Miss Shermann. I'm tired now, so I'll say goodnight, and I'll probably put some more on this tomorrow. This is tomorrow. A nasty damp day. However, I'm in hopes it will clear up soon. We had a heavy thunderstorm last night. I can't think of any more news of interest. You be sure to keep any eye on Flora. Write soon, votre tout dévoué

Don't that French closing sound learned?
