Dear Friend,

I received your letter yesterday and was pleased to hear from you, you say you had a cold hard winter there. Well, with the exception of January (which was pretty cold) we had a lovely winter here and we are all having beautiful weather here now and the farmers are all busy getting their seed in, next week will see it nearly all in except for flax, barely and oats. The farmers are all feeling jubilant over the prospect of a good crop this year. They all say that the prospects never were better and I hope it may prove to be the case as I am going to try and do a little farming myself this summer or have it done. I am going to try and get a section broken and intend to put at least half of it in flax.  You wanted to know what chance there was out here in our City, well I will give you my opinion as near as I can. I believe we have one of the finest cities in the West and if a fellow has some money to invest and can go to work too I do not see any reason why he cannot do all right. There is lots of work of all kinds here in the summer time. There is lots of building every summer and carpenters are getting from 30 cts to 45 cts per hour. The homesteads in this vicinity are pretty well taken up and not much chance to get one except by cancellation. Thy are allowing some to be cancelled, of course. There are a lot of homesteads to be had yet by going further back. We have had quite a wait for the Railroad but the section that I intend to get broken this summer is just 1½ miles from a station. If you thought of moving out here, I think it would be well for you to come out and look the situation over first. I will be glad to give you any further information that I can and will be glad to hear from you at any time. Yours Truly,

TO Newell.
