Flo and Friends go for a motor ride in the country
I love these photos from the twenties. Here's Flo and friends in their loose fitting 20's frocks; not the elegant designs we see in movies about the era. The kind of clothes teachers can afford. Marion isn't here. She's at home tending four children under 10. Flo, for all her freedom, would gladly change places with her. She makes no bones about it in letters home to Mom: she gets depressed every time Marion has a child. Flo does eventually marry and have a child and a still birth. Edith doesn't seem to envy Marion. She considers Marion's kids her family. In the 40's she creates a strong bond with a great niece and is a powerful influence on the woman's life. Flo is second from the right in the top photo
