Radnor Forges
My dear friend,
Welcome to your gentle letter, who was waited with so much anxiety.
Yes, my dear Edith, a month has passed since you left me and really, it seems like years to me.
Just imagine, the 'old bird' has gone back to the 'old nest' once more. She left Monday morning and never said when she'd come back. You can't hardly have guessed how this marriage has changed things in my quiet home. And I am afraid the happiness is gone forever. I am leaving tomorrow for Grand Mere and Shawinigan for two weeks and then will go to Montreal. Won't you come to Radnor again, my dear Edith. The fire has changed many things, but they will commence to rebuild very soon. I hope everything will get quite right again. My father is working in Shawinigan and we were going to move there had they not rebuilt the furnace. I am sorry I could not see your mother when she was in Radnor. By the time I heard about it, she was gone.
I am glad to know that you are having a good time and I wish trouble and happiness will never be your share, but my dear Edith, won't your forget all your other friends for a few minutes and come to talk for your good letters make me so happy. I am not feeling any better and really, I could not stop smiling when you told me to take things as easy as possible for the 'old beast' is not dead yet my dear and very hard to kill, be sure of it.
Tell me Edith, with your habitual frankness, is there many mistakes in my letters. Your very true friend,
Alide de Lerufel.
