Margaret to Marion

Richmond, September 15, 08

Dear Marion,

Your second letter rec'd. I am glad you have such a nice room. I think you are very comfortable and fortunate, just a little too far from your school. Mrs. Lawson of Windsor spent yesterday with me. We had a such a nice visit. I took her down to the Miller's and she rode home with Willie Miler and his wife. They were returning from a trip to Inverness.  She was telling me you could get a nice room for $12.00 and go out for meals.  I don't want you to go out for meals if you can possibly help it. I am surprised that you have not seen Herb. Really, he ought to call and see you. Were you not speaking to him. I was disappointed that I did not hear from him.  Please call him up. I had a letter from father today. He is very well, only going for longer walks than usual. He said they had several showers lately so they had no fires near them.  The smoke here is terrible and such a mist, when the girls started to school this morning we could not see Montgomery's or any house. About half past 10 the sun came out and it was quite a fine day. Mrs. McCaig, Edith and I went to the cattle show fair. I should say not a great crowd. I sent your bursary yesterday. Let me know if you need it all. I see the elections will be the last of October. Father will be home then, if not before. If you want to pay Father, send it to the Post Office to me for I need the money to take us to the fair tomorrow.

I think you are having a pretty fine time going to Dominion Park. How I do detest that Pauline. Don't go to hear him. I hope Herb won't either. It should not be allowed. I hear Mabel is to be married the 7th. Edith has commenced to rip her blue dress, the one she tore at the fair, so that will be more work for me.

With much love,
Mother.
