Grocery List 1900

One page of a two page invoice. This fed a family of six. The garden supplied vegetables in the summer. Milk was purchased from a special merchant, butter too, usually. Meat came from Pope's butchers.  All Richmond milk merchants claimed to sell 'pure' milk. Contaminated milk was a worry back then, especially in the cities. The Nicholsons spent about 350-550 a year on food and sundries, it seems between 1883 and 1920.
