General Douglas MacArthur's Montreal Connection
First cousins, Mary, Elizabeth and Emily Hardy/Fair

The Hardy-Fair  women of Virginia, first cousins of General Douglas MacArthur, who all ended up living in Montreal. READ MY STORY HERE. May, at left, is my husband's grandmother, who danced the first dance with Douglas at his West Point Graduation. Elizabeth, above, married a Montrealer, Fred Tofield in 1911. May met her Montreal husband on a visit to Elizabeth's. (With the civil war and WW1, I'm guessing eligible men were scarce down South.) Emily, below, took care of her mom, Elizabeth M. Hardy up until her death in 1920, and then went to live with May and took care of May's son, Tom, my husband's dad. Other pic is either Mary Pinckney Hardy (mother of MacArthur or her sister Elizabeth. From family photos. Click for possible tintype of MacArthur's Mom Pinky and sister Elizabeth.
